Knot Okay Club is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization for Black women and non-binary people promoting self-care, mental health and community building through fiber arts, specifically crochet. It's okay to be knot okay!
Our free monthly programming is designed to:
Create + maintain independent, inclusive meeting spaces for community members
Increase awareness + representation of Black fiber artists in the industry
Promote crochet and fiber arts as mental health support tools
Combat the loneliness epidemic by connecting like-minded people for friendship and resources
Create and promote business and educational opportunities for Black women
Dismantle the stereotype that fiber arts are exclusively for white women and senior citizens
Spark intergenerational knowledge-sharing and mutual aid
Inspired by The Cheetah Girls & the Riot Grrrls feminist movement of the 90's, KOC members, known as "Knotty Grrlz" represent the ideological pillars of sisterhood, freedom of expression and the collective fight against gender-based violence, misogynoir, homophobia and racism - issues that impact our everyday lives.
Knot Okay Club was founded in Brooklyn, New York in 2022 by multidisciplinary artist and sociologist Camryn Easley in an effort to find community and combat the stigma of struggling with your mental health. Since then, the organization has onboarded several team members, established 5 state chapters, partnered with dozens of organizations and businesses and organically grown to 4,000 members and 40,000 supporters internationally.
KOC membership is limited to those who identify as Black women or Black non-binary persons, however, we often host public events that are open to all community members!
